Kings Highway: Its Significance

I should have mentioned this upfront; our trip to the southern part of Jordan was through the long, winding and highest highway of Jordan – the King’s Highway. It stretches 335 kilometers and passes through farmland, plateaus, deserts, and most of all many significant historical spots, connecting Amman in the north to Aqaba in the south of the country. Well, what is so fascinating thing about this highway? It is just a highway, anyway. The significant thing about this highway with regard to the objective of our trip was; Yes, the King's Highway is the world's oldest yet frequently used communication route and was a trade route of vital importance to the ancient Middle East. It began in Egypt, and stretched across the Sinai Peninsula to Aqaba. From there it turned northward, leading to Damascus and the Euphrates River. It is believed that many Prophets have used some stretches of the highway for their religious obligation, off course, not like what we see now.
Besides that, as we ascended the highway to the highest peak of the highway, which is said to be 2,400 meters (near Shawbek) above sea level, the scenery and the rock formation was indescribable amazing!
Through my reading, the stretch between the Lake of Prophet Lut a.s to Tefila – Karak – Dana – Wadi Musa, treasures few significant shrines, tombs, and stories of some Prophets of Allah and the Sahabah of the Great Messenger Prophet Muhammad saw (peace be upon him). Nearby, between Tafila and Karak, there is shrine of Prophet Nuh a.s. Within the same area, there is tree claimed to be a place where Prophet Muhammad saw (peace be upon him) stopped with his uncle (and caravan), when he was still a boy, during their way to Shams or Syria.Allah hu ‘alam.
There were few tombs of the Sahabah radiyallah hu ajmain that I could recall, like, Abu Dharr al Ghafiri, Zeid bin Ali bin al Hussein, Abdullah bin Rawahah, Jabir bin Abdullah and Harith Ibn Umayr Azadi. Unfortunately, due to time constraint, except the tomb of Harith Ibn Umayr Azadi, we were not able to really visit the exact location of these places. We were told by Harir that, to reach the tomb of Prophet Harun a.s near Petra will take roughly 6 hours by foot! Guys, just imagine how determined and persistence the people thousands of year ago persevering their lives in seeking Allah swt Blessings!
On the way to Wadi Musa, we stopped at Al Harith Ibn Umayr Azadi’s tomb (I will share it later) and few brief stops at the highest elevation of the highway mainly to admire the freshness of its atmosphere the spectacular view of Dana valley under the 4 pm sun. The three hours or so travelling along the Kings Highway entertained by many awe-inspiring sceneries and historical spots was indeed a fruitful experience for the seven of us.
