Cycling

Cycling is always my favorites sport since I was in my secondary school. Back in 1980, when I was in form 4, group of us used to cycle to Miri or Kuala Baram which is 10 km from Lutong. 10 km then was quite a distance for us. I joint a 20 km Miri – Lutong Bicycle Merdeka race. In 1999, we, group of ABF and MLNG cyclist made a successful 230 km ride through 192 hills to Miri in 13 hours 36 minutes. Unfortunately, I only covered about 200 km of 189 hills with my GT-300 mountain bike due to severe leg cramp. Nonetheless, the ‘lifetime Cycling Experience’ was well organised and sponsored by ABF, MLNG, and few big Local Contractors. Upon arrival at Miri Fan Garden, we were ushered by few VIPs at 20:36 hours local time.

Cycling: Inherited

|

As time goes by and the age number inflated, the paddling power deteriorated, the cycling tradition continued by my sons ‘Afi and Muhammad Afiq. We have two bikes, one is GT 300 mountain bike and another is Colnago Dream. I am very proud of them for inheriting the traditional bicycle leisure pursuit. Well, sustaining the momentum is more crucial than whatever that we have currently. The courage and efforts to improve ourselves in whatever aspects are much more important than the results. As a matter of fact, the results are with Allah Azza Wa Jala discretion and authorities.

Bonsai: The art of Patience

|

Gardening is also one of pastime diversion. During our stint in Bintulu, landscaping our garden was always my second job. In 1997, our garden landscape was awarded champion for ABF Landscaping Competition. Gardening has varieties of categories and techniques. And, one of I love and crazed most is Bonsai training. I had three pots of Bonsai which I trained since 1981, when I first fell in love with this rare Malay hobby. The plant – facus- was given to me by our late Bonsai guru – Hj Ramli Mok. He and his son Alwi were very kind enough to teach me the techniques and tips on how to train Bonsai for FOC. It is an art of patience, it takes years to train and finally produce one good Bonsai which literally means in Japanese - plant in a pot. It originated from the Chinese which linked Taoism. Now, Bonsai has been commercialised and becomes a luxury collection items in many rich Tycoons especially in Asia.
