Bismillah hi twakkal hu allallah….we made our first step out from the hotel at around 07:30 hours. The weather was nice and the sky was blue. The ambience was about 14 degrees centigrade and most of the people were still in deep sleep after the all-nightlong celebration of the new 2010. Few restaurants had already started serving the menu. Some groceries had commenced their operations.
Sultanahmet named after Sultan Ahmed I, is the heart of historic old Istanbul, what the 19th century travelers used to call it ‘Stambul’Besides the popular touristic prominent figures, there were many well-maintained old charm buildings with few modern cotemporary buildings. It is a very friendly district and neighborhood. All the local people that we met were very helpful and hospitable. However, to enjoy the sightseeing one must have certain kind of knowledge about it or otherwise, fork out your 70 Euro (per person per day), an excellent English speaking tour guide with vast knowledge will walk you around with all the information. As for us, we opted to explore the neighborhood ourselves. Akin to ‘Treasure Hunt’, it was thrilling thing and adventurous though. We had prepared ourselves with some kind of info and knowledge about the places listed in the agenda prior to the visit. The streets were quite tricky, but with the good signage, helpful fluent English speaking locals and road map that abundantly available from any travel & tour operators or stationary kiosks, and information centers, had made the tour more fun, interesting and memorable experience.
Sultanahmet has many wonderful things to offer. With the limited time that we had, we have to pick-and-choose those significant and relevant with our objectives. In this release, I share you some of the interesting photos that we took around the neighborhood. As the saying goes, ‘pictures paint thousands words’. Enjoy!
