The first time in life standing in the middle of the Pistachio farm amid the chilly Spring Syrian weather. Sharing third in the rank with Turkey, Syria is one of the top five Pistachio producing countries after USA in the world. It produces about 60,000 tonnes of good quality pistachio per year. This culinary nut is one of our favorites and I was informed that, it is good for our brain, is it?
The trees are planted in orchards, and take approximately seven to ten years to reach significant production. Production is alternate bearing or biennial bearing, meaning the harvest is heavier in alternate years. After visiting Afamea, on the way to Halab or Allepo we stopped at one of the orchard along the highway to have a close look of the trees. Amazing.
